  • HB: Michael Small

Today marks the birthday of film composer Michael Small (1939-2003).  Small is best know for a number of scores to thrillers in the 1970s with his theme for Marathon Man (1976) among fan favorites.  Very few of Small's scores are available on CD.  Intrada released a limited edition disc last year of his music for The Star Chamber (1983) which quickly sold out.  You can sometimes find one of the composer's last scores, Wagons East! (1994) in a used bin on occasion.  Small is one of those composers whose work graced some of the popular films of the day, even though many were not always critical favorites, and one may say that many were not "hits" necessarily.  For now you can hear his music mostly by sitting through some of the films he worked on, a personal favorite being The Parallax View

  • Yeah, I meant to pick up the "Star Crash" cd at some point, but it sold out quicker than I expected it too... and the "Black Widow" samples just didn't really do enough for me.  Oh well.

I do have his score for "Jaws: The Revenge", which is pretty enjoyable... I'd definitely like to have "The Parallax View" on cd.

    Back at ya later
